BUCYRUS―It’s that time of year again when hundreds of children and their parents will converge on Aumiller Park for the annual Spooktacular event.

Spooktacular will kick off at4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, at with tons of fun, food and entertainment. The event is scheduled to last until 7 p.m.

In previous years, the Bucyrus Firefighters union IAFF (International Association of Fire Fighters) Local 1120 hosted the event but this year, the administration of the City of Bucyrus has taken over that role.

“The firefighters needed help and were having trouble getting volunteers, so the city decided to join in and help organize the event,” said Kelli Patterson, administrative assistant in the mayor’s office.

Patterson said there are many new features this year including the Haunted Poolhouse by MB Subculture.

“Registration will be held in the area near the pool house and the main pavilion, where there will be plenty of food offered. Every pizza place in town are donating pizzas and there will be cookies from Pepperidge Farms and much more,” Patterson said.

Parking will be available in the park and near the park entrance at Mennel Milling with a shuttle service bringing people back and forth.

According to Patterson, there will be crafts, prizes, freebies and games throughout the park sponsored by local businesses and organizations.

“We will also have goody bags at the registration area for the kids,” said Patterson. “A costume contest will be held at the gazebo.”

Mayor Jeff Reser said he is hoping for good weather on Saturday.

“It looks like it may rain in the morning but is supposed to be around 50 degrees so hopefully the weather will cooperate, and everyone will have a great time,” said Reser.

The rain date for the event is Oct. 27. For more information, visit the Facebook event for Spooktacular.
