BUCYRUS—When the Crawford County Board of Elections met on Thursday, they were able to certify several independent petitions for the general election although not all of the petitions could be certified.
Running against current Bucyrus City Council President Kurt Fankhauser will be Brian Seybert in November. Adam Frizzell’s petition was not certified due to there not being enough valid signatures on his petition.
For Council-At-Large, Dan Wirebaugh and Mark Schultz will be running against two Republican incumbents, Kevin Myers and Mark Makeever, for three available seats. Robert Taylor had filed a nominating party petition as an Independent but then voted as a Republican in the May primary election which knocked him out of the running for one of the positions. The petition of Robert Kalb was also not certified due to not having the circulator statement completed on his petition.
Current council-at-large member James Mee filed an Independent petition to run for fourth ward council member but did not have enough valid signatures for his petition to be certified. The position is currently held by Lisa Alsept who has chosen not to run for re-election. Steven Young’s petition was certified to run for the open seat.
Brad Siebert’s petition was certified for him to have a place on the ballot for third ward council member. The position is currently held by Doug Foght who is not running for re-election. After Republican Christina Surgener chose to drop out of the race, the Republican party nominated Terry Spiegel to run so Spiegel and Siebert will vie against each other for the seat on council.
Aaron Sharrock will run unopposed for her current seat as second ward council member and Brenton Potter, who won the Republican primary election in May against Tracey Price, will run unopposed for first ward council member. The position is currently held by outgoing council member Bruce Truka.
The general election will be held on Nov. 2 with polls open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
