MANSFIELD, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—The Mansfield Police Department is currently investigating the discovery of skeletal remains found in a residence at 270 1/2 W. Third Street. The remains were discovered on Monday evening by a worker making repairs to the home.

Richland County Coroner Chief Investigator, Bob Ball, confirmed the discovery and stated that the Forensic and Biological Anthropology Team from Mercyhurst University, led by Dr. Dennis Dirkmaat, Ph.D., will be processing the scene on Tuesday morning.

The remains were located in an upstairs crawlspace at the back of the residence, a space approximately three feet high by twelve feet long. A contractor was called in to create additional space for the forensic team to process the crime scene.

According to Ball, the crime scene will be processed as a homicide until evidence suggests otherwise.
