The Shunk Museum may be closed to visitors, but the Crestline Historical Society is preparing to open its doors at another location.
The historical society purchased the former Crestline Banquet Center at 400 Scott St. for $50,000 this month. The 5,000 square foot, one-floor building, which once operated as a Knights of Columbus hall, will see a new fate as the home of the Crestline Historical Society.
The Crestline Advocate reported that the Shunk Museum’s collection outgrew the home on North Thoman Street and that the building had major structural issues. The transfer of the collection into archival storage at the Crestline school administration building began earlier this year.
The Crestline Historical Society is expected to launch a campaign in December to raise funds for renovations at the new museum. The fate of the Shunk Museum remains uncertain.
