GALION — The Crawford County Sheriff’s Office has released the identities of two men involved in a fatal crash in rural Galion on Thursday afternoon.

One man has died and another is in stable condition after the two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Monnett-New Winchester Road and Ohio 100.

Mitchell Davis, 33, of Bucyrus died due to injuries suffered in the crash when his 2001 Toyota was struck by a 2016 Ford F-550.

The F-550 was driven by John Bays, 42, of Gallipolis. Bays was last reported as being in stable condition at Grant Medical Center in Columbus.

Bays was taken by the Galion Fire Department to Galion Hospital before being transported to Grant Medical Center in critical condition.

Davis was originally loaded into a MedFlight helicopter but was removed due to the extent of his injuries and transported to Galion Hospital by Life Support Team EMS where he succumbed to his injuries.

Initial reports said Bays was traveling eastbound and pulling a trailer on Monnett-New Winchester Road when he failed to yield at a stop sign and struck Davis’ vehicle.

Davis’ vehicle reportedly caught fire as a result.
