Of all the animals shown at the Crawford County Fair, none seem to hold as much charm as the goats, nor possibly as many entries.

A large amount of 4-H members signed on to participate in the goat show on Wednesday morning; one that lasted into the afternoon. There were multiple categories, some with up to 19 classes to be judged.

In both the middleweight and heavyweight sections, Dwight Shawk took the championship title. This carried over into the announcement for overall titles, when Shawk was deemed both the reserve and grand champion for the entire day.

Shawk said that the whole process was really fun, albeit a lot of work, and that it is “extremely rewarding to watch all of the hard work pay off.”

“It feels good. It basically is a lot of work; first of all you have to select them. That’s always a fun process, working with your breeders, getting information about the animals, just having fun,” Shawk said. “Then all the work exercising them, working with them, training them for showmanship to brace. Just a lot of work involved.”

In the meat type doe category, Seth Carman was named reserve champion and Megan Gwirtz earned the title of grand champion. For the dairy doe category, Chloe Carman was reserve and Nathan Kalb was champion. In the market kid section, Sarah Wingert won reserve and Jessica Cramer won the grand champion title. In the lightweight section, the reserve champion was Courtney Britt and the grand champion was Kristen Orewiler.
