Sunday evening the Crawford County 4-H Style Revue proved that turkeys are not the only ones who can strut their stuff. A crowd gathered in the youth building to watch the 4-H members who took a sewing project to this year’s fair.
There were a wide variety of projects shown off. From skirts and dresses to recycled items turned into accessories, the runway was full of unique styles. Each individual with a project either wore their creation or brought along a model that they made the outfit for.
All of the models appeared to enjoy modeling their hard work for the audience. One particular model, Bella Walter, had a shining smile on her face that never appeared to leave. Walter seemed beyond natural on stage as she stopped to pose several times to show off every feature of her dress.
Another participant, Sydnee Corwin, member of Dairy Maids and Gents 4-H Club, brought two little models on stage with her to show off her project. Corwin was the only one to take two sewing projects. In the past, Corwin has taken other sewing projects so she is no stranger to the needle and thread world.
“I’ve done more sewing projects before, just this is my first year for this particular project,” Corwin explained.
Corwin’s first project was called “Sew for Others.” For this project, Corwin created three outfits for her little cousins. She made the oldest one a dress and the younger two skirts. The dress alone was a very lengthy project, taking about a month. Once she completed the dress, she decided to add the two skirts for the younger cousins as well.
For Corwin’s second project she took “Shopping Savvy,” which actually required no sewing at all. This helped make time for her to work on her outfits for her cousins, which was by far her favorite. Both projects taught Corwin many things and she cannot wait to take on more sewing projects in future years.
