Crime certainly hasn’t paid off for criminals at the start of 2014. Police departments across the county arrested fifteen people over the last week alone and the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office tacked on an additional two for the New Year.

Bucyrus police arrested four people over the weekend. Twenty-eight-year-old Branden E. Morris started the round of arrests off by being charged with domestic violence early Saturday morning. He was taken to the Crawford County Justice Center to await a court appearance. Officers followed up that arrest with a charge of disorderly conduct for thirty-six-year-old Paula R. Blankenship. She was also taken to the county jail.

Officers arrested twenty-nine-year-old Zackery M. Stanley in the 400 block of E. Mansfield St. on a Crawford County warrant Saturday night. He was also transported to the county jail.

When officers responded to a 911 hang up call and made a welfare check in the 500 block of S. Walnut St. Sunday, they ended up with an arrest. Forty-two-year-old Regina Ross was arrested at her residence and charged with domestic violence. She was taken to the Crawford County Justice Center.

The Galion Police Department wasn’t going easy on criminals just because it was the holiday season. The police department racked up 11 arrests last week.

Officers stopped twenty-two-year-old Ernest Alexander Rufus Thompson in the early morning hours Friday morning for an obstructed plate and improper signal. During that time, Thompson was charged with driving under suspension, failure to reinstate license, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of marijuana. He was transported to the Crawford County Justice Center.

Twenty-five-year-old Cody L. Webb of Lexington and thirty-three-year-old Tyrone C. Bowman were arrested Sunday after the Galion Police Department received a call about a syringe being found in a barn on Crew Ave. Webb was arrested on warrants out of the Ontario Police Department and the Mansfield Police Department. He was also charged with possession of heroin, possession of drug abuse instruments, and criminal trespassing by the Galion Police Department. Bowman was arrested on a Crawford County warrant.

Those arrests included fifty-seven-year-old Duane A. Crisp; thirty-year-old Billy Joe Riddle III (possession of drug abuse instruments); fifty-four-year-old Susan McElhatten (disorderly conduct); twenty-five-year-old Donald Cody Ray (theft); fifty-nine-year-old Dennis N. Marsh (disorderly conduct); twenty-six-year-old Eric Michael Simmering of Crestline; thirty-one-year-old Trizo Martinez; and fifty-three-year-old Joseph T. Gledhill.

Ringing in the New Year did not come easy for some. The Crawford County Sheriff’s Office arrested two men on domestic violence charges on Jan. 1. Jerry N. Campbell and Dale A. Woodard, both having been arrested on separate domestic violence charges, are being held for court.
