BUCYRUS — A Bucyrus City School District bus was involved in a minor accident at the intersection of Southern Avenue and Marion Road while transporting students to Bucyrus Elementary School on Friday, Dec 14.

No injuries were sustained by students, the bus driver or the driver of the other vehicle involved in the accident. The bus was able to continue its route and deliver the students safely to Bucyrus Elementary School.

“Our bus driver notified us immediately after the accident happened and we implemented our safety plan immediately,” Bucyrus Superintendent Kevin Kimmel said. “We are thankful that our students, our bus driver and the driver of the other vehicle were not injured in the accident.”

The district’s administration, upon learning of the accident, immediately contacted the families of all the students on the bus to let them know their child was involved in the accident and that they sustained no injuries.

“All the students’ families have been contacted as of 9 a.m. today (Dec 14),” Kimmel said. “I want to thank the district’s administrative team for their swift response to this situation.”

The accident is still under investigation by the Bucyrus Police Department.

Names of students, the bus driver or the driver of the other vehicle are not being released at this time.

The Bucyrus Fire Department and Portsmouth Emergency Ambulance Services also responded to the scene.
