BUCYRUS — Wynford’s Board of Education was shown new safety precautions that have taken place in the school’s classrooms Thursday night.
The new safety measures include window armor, which is a black metal piece that fits on the back of the door, and there is a piece that slides across and locks in to block the window.
The window armor is not bulletproof, but to get in an intruder would have to break through the glass and spend a decent amount of time beating at the armor to even begin to get through.
At the bottom of the door, there is a stopper that can be placed in the doorway so that the door absolutely cannot be opened.
Other safety measures that are to be taken, are new bulletproof windows on classrooms. The windows also will be ones that need cranked open, and the hope is to have it wide enough that two students may get out at a time in case of an emergency.
The classrooms also feature the classroom number on the window, so if an emergency needs to be called in, authorities may find the classroom quicker.
Wynford’s elementary students, who are a part of the Student Leadership program, gave a presentation to the board about their program. The program is a group of kids in elementary school who were chosen based on an application that they turned in.

The kids do things like help with the announcements, help back stage with school productions, serve as tour guides, sing happy birthday to students on their birthday and give them a card and pencil, amongst many other things to help get the kids involved with the school.
It also was announced the official groundbreaking day for Wynford’s new school is Sunday, May 19. at 1p.m. The public is invited to attend.
