NEW WASHINGTON — The Buckeye Central Board of Education members who attended this year’s OSBA conference were asked to discuss different things they learned about with members who were not able to attend.

Among the things discussed were Ohio Arts Council’s Big Yellow School Bus Program. This program provides a grant of as much as $500 for transportation costs for trips associated with the arts. These trips could be to places like museums, galleries, festivals, etc.

The grant is for public and private schools, pre-kindergarten through secondary, and home-schooling associations.

Another topic discussed was the rising of eSports. eSports is a form of competition using video games.

There are high schools across the country who are creating eSports teams to try and get more kids involved in school activities. Ohio colleges such as Miami University, Ashland and the University of Akron offer eSports to students, and there are even scholarships available.

Buckeye Central may look further in to eSports to see if it is something the board would like to make available to students.

The board’s next meeting is Jan. 7 at 7 p.m.
