CRESTLINE — It’s official: Matthew Henderson is the new superintendent of Crestline Exempted Village Schools.
The district’s board of education unanimously voted to approve a contract with Henderson from Aug. 1 through July 31, 2022, for the position during their regular monthly meeting Tuesday evening.
“It’s truly an honor to be selected to be the next superintendent here,” said Henderson before he introduced his wife, Molly. “She encouraged me to apply for the position and you will be seeing a lot of her as well.”
Henderson was one of seven semi-finalists and two finalists for the position.
He currently serves as the curriculum director for Bucyrus City Schools.
Also during the meeting, the board approved a bridge contract for a period of as many as 20 days prior to July 31 to allow Henderson to work with interim superintendent John Miller.
“I am very excited to begin working on this bridge contract to learn everything I can from all of you, meet the students and parents along with the community,” Henderson said. “I hope to serve all of you well as your superintendent and I thank you for giving me this opportunity.”
According to Miller, one of the first things to be address over the next few weeks is the lack of employee contracts.
“We had one person that we discovered had been working without a contract since 2013. Other employees began looking over their contracts and discovered they did not have current contracts, at least three or four of them,” Miller said.
Miller said he will be reviewing all employee contracts and a special board meeting was scheduled for May 29 at 5 p.m. to address the issue.
The contracts of high school principal Jamie Masi and elementary principal Julie Murphy also were approved during the meeting along with certified and non-certified staff members. The retirements of Wendy Schwall and Denis Kempf also were approved.
The next regular board meeting is June 11 at 7 p.m. in the high school library.
