NORTH ROBINSON — Colonel Crawford Band Director Justin Cooper asked the Colonel Crawford Board of Education for approval to begin the planning phase of a trip to the AutoZone Liberty Bowl in Memphis, Tennessee, in December.

During the regular board meeting Monday evening, Cooper said the band will play at the bowl game and compete in the Liberty Bowl Battle of the Bands Field Show Contest.

“We will be going over Christmas break, so the students will not be missing any school days to attend,” Cooper said.

Cooper said the band has been hosting fundraisers and will continue to do so to help offset the cost of approximately $800 per student for the five days and four nights the band will be in Memphis. The trip will include visits to attractions in Memphis, such as Graceland and the Rock N’ Soul Museum.

The board approved the trip as part of its consent agenda.

The board also approved three-year contracts for each of the district’s principals, including elementary principal Cindy Voss, intermediate principal April Bond and high school principal Jake Bruner.

The board approved this year’s graduating class along with the retire-rehire of Mike Hensley, maintenance director; Roger Haas, bus driver; and Kenny Young as bus head mechanic for the 2019-20 school year.

The next board meeting is May 20 at 7 p.m.
