CRESTLINE — A variety of agenda items were discussed during the Crestline Exempted Village Schools Board of Education meeting for September.
One topic of discussion at Monday night’s meeting was the need for more students to attend and show their support at sporting events.
One idea given was incentive based, and it is that every nine-week grading period, if a student does well and earns good grades, then he or she may have some sort of sticker put on their student I.D. that will allow them to get into events for free.
The current cost for a student to get into a sporting event is $4.
The board accepted a $500 donation from CenturyLink of Mansfield given to the Crestline High School Athletic Department specifically to be put toward increased student involvement and developing school spirit.
In other board action, Crestline is looking to implement the Hero911TM app soon, which is an app that may be installed on phones and works as an active shooter awareness message service.
If there were to be an active shooter on the school’s premises, someone could go on the app and hit an alert that would notify anyone else in the area with the app that there is an active shooter on campus.
It was said to be location based, so someone cannot be at McDonald’s and hit the button. The person must be at the school to send an alert.
Crestline Superintendent Matt Henderson addressed concerns about the HVAC system not working last Friday when the school experienced a power outage from 7 a.m. to approximately 10 a.m.
The school operated as usual on the backup generators, and Henderson said that luckily enough, it was a nice day outside so the building was never uncomfortable to be in. School officials plan on looking into why the HVAC system did not work with the backup generators.
The Crestline High School football team will be wearing a tank sticker on the back of their helmets to honor the late coach, Robert J. “Tank” Runyon, who died Aug. 2 at the age of 78 after a short illness.
The Crestline craft show will be on Nov. 9 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will feature cow patty bingo. Bingo tickets will be $20 a piece, with the winner receiving $1,000. The event will take place at noon.
The next board meeting is Nov. 4 at 7 p.m. in the library.
