BUCYRUS — Recovery crews pulled multiple vehicles out of the Sandusky River after a crash on U.S. 30 early Friday morning.

Emergency crews were paged at 5:11 a.m. to respond to a commercial truck that traveled off the roadway and into the Sandusky River.

According to initial reports by the Bucyrus Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, a man from the state of Washington was traveling westbound on U.S. 30 between CH 330 and Ohio 98 when he traveled off the right side of the roadway.

The man drove the truck, which was hauling three other vehicles, into a guardrail and then into the river to the embankment on the other side of the water.

The man had exited the vehicle without noticeable injury before first responders arrived on the scene.

He was transported from the scene.

The crash is still under investigation and the cause of the crash is unknown due to a language barrier between the driver and law enforcement.

It was confirmed some charges will come as a result of the crash.

Other responding units included Portsmouth Emergency Ambulance Service, Liberty Township Volunteer Fire Department, Crawford County Sheriff’s Office and the Ohio Department of Transportation.

U.S. 30 was closed at the scene and traffic was rerouted to Ohio 98 while crews were on the scene.
