Rose and Greg Hartschuh’s Sycamore Run Farms mixed fun with education Saturday as they hosted the Crawford Young Ag Professionals’ “Play it Farm Safe” event.

Rose Hartschuh explained that the event was the result of a grant to do safety programming.

“This is the first year we’ve done ‘Play it Farm Safe.’ It came about as a result as a grant that our farm received to do safety programming so we were able to put some resources towards sponsoring an event like this and attracting families out here,” Rose said. “The main part of our grant was actually a combine slide which is a real combine that kids can climb up in, slide down, and as they are doing that they can learn about how big farm machinery actually is and how difficult it can share the roads sometimes.”

Zoltan Feldman attended the event with friends to have fun.

Brooklyn Gebhardt, who is a neighbor of the Hartschuh’s, helped the previous weekend to get the event ready.

“We decided to have a whole big party thing and we brought a whole bunch of people to support the whole event.” Gebhardt said.

Avita was also on hand checking blood pressure and giving health screenings, while the ODNR presented a station on tree stand safety.
