On Wednesday, Dec. 17, officers from the Bucyrus City Police Department and firefighters from the Bucyrus City Fire Department will trade in their normal work uniforms for shorts, t-shirts and sneakers to play a friendly game of hoops to benefit the children of Bucyrus. The game, slated to tip-off at 7 p.m. in Alex Kish Memorial Gymnasium at the Bucyrus Secondary School, will be played to benefit the Bucyrus Backpack Program.
“This is a selfless act of giving from individuals who already give so much by putting their lives on the line to protect our community every day,” Backpack Program Board member Lorie Pennington said. “This is a wonderful opportunity for students, parents and community members to see our public safety forces in a different venue, and also raise important funds and awareness for the Backpack Program.”
The price of admission for the game is $3 for adults and $2 for students, with all proceeds raised going directly to the Backpack Program. Proceeds from concession sales will also be donated to the Backpack Program. Players from both the boys and girls basketball teams will serve as officials, scorekeepers and work the concession stand.
“We cannot thank our public safety forces enough for their willingness to play this game to help our students and families, as well as thank them for the jobs they perform every day to keep our community safe,” said Superintendent Kevin Kimmel. “I invite all our students and families, and community members, to come to the game the 17th and support our police officers, firefighters and the Bucyrus Backpack Program.”
