Wednesday morning, the Junior Fair Goat Show was held and, the outcome for Emily Rudd was more satisfying than expected. Rudd and her goat, Randall, won the title of Grand Champion and Alexus Burkhart was named Reserve Champion.

Rudd has been a member of the Sulphur Springs Star Farmers for eight years, but this year she decided to show her goats through Wynford FFA. With seven years of goat-showing experience, Rudd described that the best feeling comes when all of the hard work put into showing is rewarded by a winning title.

“It sounds kind of funny, but your whole summer is spent and you do the same thing over and over and over again, and when you get named that title it all pays off. So it’s a great feeling and all the hard work and dedication paid off,” Rudd explained.

Rudd explained how she took one year off from showing goats, yet decided to come back to showing them a bit later.  When discussing her passion for showing, Rudd explained that through all of the showing and preparing, she believes she has found her future career path.

“I actually want to be a large animal vet when I grow up because I have such a large passion for the industry, so I want to stay in it when I’m older,” Rudd explained, “It’s been a huge part of my life for so long that I want to continue that when I’m older and can’t show anymore.”
