A section of Route 4 South of Caldwell Rd. was closed for multiple hours Friday after a semi vs. SUV crash resulted in a person needing Lifeflight transport.
At 7:35 a.m. the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office investigated the accident in which Matthew Kunzer of Bucyrus was traveling northbound on SR 4 operating a 2007 GMC Yukon. Kunzer was traveling behind a semi when for unknown reason traveled left of center striking a southbound 2006 Volvo tractor trailer on the driver’s side, operated by David Nance Jr. of Columbus. Kunzer continued and impacted with the trailer tires. The Semi trailed off the east side of the road with the trailer blocking State Route 4. Kunzer’s vehicle came to rest facing southbound in the northbound lane.
Kunzer was extricated from the heavily damaged vehicle by the Bucyrus & Dallas Twp Volunteer Fire Departments with assistance from the Bucyrus City Fire Department. Life Support Team turned patient care over to St. Vincent’s Lifeflight for transport to Toledo.
Bloomfield Towing, Knecht’s Auto Recycling and Rusty’s Towing recovered the vehicles.
The Ohio Department of Transportation provided traffic control and set up a detour until the roadway was cleared at 1:09 p.m.
The Accident remains under investigation by the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office.
