After just one year of service as the Athletics/Activities and Transportation Director for the Bucyrus City Schools, Tony Rose resigned his position during the regular Board of Education meeting May 22. He will retain his position as head coach of the boys’ basketball program and look to move into a teaching role at the Secondary School.
“I came to Bucyrus hoping to spend more time with family and to build a very competitive boys’ basketball team,” Rose said. “I firmly believe that after my first season as the head boys’ basketball coach, we have made strides toward being a strong contender year after year for many Northern 10 league titles.”
Upon accepting Rose’s resignation, the board then moved to unanimously approve Rick Rawson as the successor. Rawson has spent 27 years in the classroom, and has been a football coach at the varsity, ninth and seventh grade levels for sixteen years serving as the defensive coordinator for former head coaches Steve MacAdoo and John DiPietro. Throughout his time in the district, Rawson has been very active in the athletics program assisting with statistics for the basketball program and baseball program
“I am very honored to be considered by the Bucyrus Board of Education as a successor to Tony,” Rawson said. “I hope to use my 27 years of experience in the district to usher in a smooth transition. I will use my coaching background and experience to maintain the high level of expectations that the Board of Education and community members have for our athletic programs.”
“We are very fortunate to have had an individual with the knowledge and experience of Tony Rose serve as our Athletics/Activities and Transportation Director,” Secondary School Principal Dr. Mark Burke said. “And we are equally as fortunate to have an individual like Rick Rawson who has the ability and capacity to step right into this role and not miss a beat.”
Rose’s resignation as the Athletics/Activities and Transportation Director will be effective July 31, 2014, and Rawson will take the reins beginning August 1, 2014.
“I look forward to working with Rick to help him in whatever way he needs,” Rose said. “Having served in this position for one year, I know the demands that go with the position and I am more than willing to do everything I can to help Rick with the daily demands of the job.”
