There were no surprises at Tuesday’s special meeting for the Bucyrus City School District’s Board of Education. The board accepted and approved the recommendation to make Tony Rose the next athletics director/activities director for the district.
Rose joins the Redmen family following nine years at North Union Local Schools in Richwood. During his time there, he served as the girls basketball coach for five years and athletics director for the past four.
Rose’s coaching career spans more than two decades, and despite his resignation the position as a physical education and health teacher at Bucyrus, he will continue serving as the boys basketball coach.
According to Rose an athletic director is in the role of being the “head coach of coaches,” working to get the whole staff on the same page and with the same goals. He says that he is excited to grow every athletic venue that Bucyrus has to offer into a competitive program alongside the coaches that have been set in place.
When asked what his goal is, Rose responded, “To be competitive, to support one another, and to become a close-knit family.” He continued on to say, “I’m very excited about this opportunity. Everything is in place and I hope to build a tradition.”
The Bucyrus School Board will hold their regular meeting at 7 p.m. on Aug. 22.
