MANSFIELD, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW) — The Mansfield Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol responded to a two-vehicle injury crash on State Route 603 at the intersection of Schrack Road in Monroe Township, Richland County. The incident occurred on March 4, 2025, at 3:49 p.m. and involved a Lucas Local Schools bus and a motorcycle.

Kris Leiter, 60, of Lexington, Ohio, was operating a 2014 Blue Bird bus eastbound on Schrack Road. Layton Cornell, 26, of Mansfield, Ohio, was operating a 2005 Harley Davidson Sportster 1200 southbound on State Route 603. Mr. Leiter failed to yield at a posted stop sign and entered State Route 603. Mr. Cornell attempted to stop, causing the motorcycle to overturn on the roadway and strike the school bus.

The school bus was occupied by seven students, none of whom were injured. Mr. Cornell suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene by Monroe Township EMS before being released. Mr. Leiter was issued a citation for failure to yield from a stop sign. Drugs and alcohol are not suspected to be factors in the crash.
