MANSFIELD, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—A man and woman from Richland County have been arrested following a fatal stabbing in Columbus on Wednesday morning.

Shavar A. Johnson, 23, of Mansfield, faces a murder charge, while Courtney M. Webb, 21, of Shelby, has been charged with felony obstruction of justice, as reported in court documents. Both individuals were arraigned on Thursday, with Johnson’s bond set at $1.5 million and Webb’s at $500,000. They are currently being held at the James A. Karnes Correction Center in Columbus. Preliminary hearings for both are scheduled for December 20.

The incident took place around 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday when Columbus police discovered 22-year-old Amareyon Daniels unresponsive with multiple stab wounds in Weinland Park on North Grant Avenue. Medics from the Columbus Fire Department pronounced Daniels dead at 7:39 a.m.

Shortly after the stabbing, Johnson arrived at the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center with a stab wound to his hand, allegedly driven there by Webb.

Webb initially told detectives that Daniels had approached her in an alley and attempted to rob her at gunpoint. She claimed that after she informed him she had nothing of value, Daniels threatened to rape her, prompting Johnson to intervene and stab him.

However, police later contradicted Webb’s account based on surveillance video evidence. The footage revealed Webb sitting in a vehicle with Daniels when Johnson approached, opened the door, and attacked Daniels directly.

When confronted with the video evidence, Webb altered her story. Upon being questioned about the inconsistencies in her account, she reportedly requested legal representation.

The investigation is ongoing.
