At 12:05 p.m. on Friday, the National Weather Service issued tornado warning for Crawford County. The warning lasted until 12:45 p.m.

Eric Faulds of WQEL Q92.7 was Live on the radio providing real-time updates as the storm moved through. Faulds said, “The tornado sirens were wailing outside the studio and I just focused on getting the latest reports out to our listeners. But reports kept coming from the weather service that Galion could be impacted. That’s where my family was so it was hard not to let my voice shake while I was on the air.”

Although radar indicated rotation from the storm was capable of developing into a tornado, there were no reports of a tornado touch down.

There was damage from the thunderstorm that occurred during the time of the tornado warning. According to the Crawford County Sheriff’s Department, numerous poles and trees were brought down during the storm. Several areas also suffered flooding.

St. Rt. 98 South, near the Crawford-Marion Line was closed due to fallen power lines. Traffic was backed up all the way into Bucyrus. Ohio Edison is working on the scene to allow traffic to be reopened. There is currently no estimate for when the road will be reopened.

A threat of severe weather was expected to continue through the rest of the day.
