CRESTLINE—Joe Jakubick of First Energy came to the Crestline Village Council meeting Monday evening to issue a few warnings about scammers to local residents.

Jakubick said that some residents have received calls that show up as his number on their caller ID but are not from him.

“People are being told their electric is being shut off and they have to pay immediately to avoid disconnection,” said Jakubick.

He said that when he has checked their accounts, the customers’ bills are paid up-to-date and there is no disconnection.

“Also, some people are getting calls where the caller says we owe them a credit. The callers ask for people’s banking information to be able to put their refunds in their accounts. This is not First Energy calling,” said Jakubick.

Council also approved a resolution on the third reading to authorize the Mayor and fiscal officer to establish an extension to the lease with the American Red Cross for continued use of the Crestline Community Center at 102 N. Thoman St.

Mayor Linda Horning Pitt said in her report that she has met with all village department heads to determine the conditions of their equipment along with projects they are working on. She also toured each department and met with employees individually to share her vision and expectations for the village and to gain their feedback.

“I encourage everyone to come to the Crestline Community Enhancement meeting this Wednesday evening at 6 p.m. at Crestline High School. A lot of positive things are happening,” said Pitt.

Village Administrator John Rostash said in his report to council that Buckeye Excavating is currently pressuretesting the new main waterline.

They discovered a problem in the section between Wiley Street and Pearl Street and are working to resolve the leak. Once it is fixed, they will pressure test the line again,” said Rostash.

He said updates will be posted on the village website. He also said that two large plow trucks are down for service.

One has a clutch that needs to be repaired and the other has a computer issue that needs servicing. We have our small trucks available and we are reaching out to the neighboring townships for assistance if needed,” said Rostash.

Rostash provided a list of upcoming meetings as follows:

The Crestline Planning Commission will be in Village Hall on Thursday, January 23 at 5:30 p.m. The agenda will include water service to a resident outside of Village limits and a proposed lot split.

The Crestline Board of Zoning Appeals will meet on Monday, January 27 at 5:30 p.m. to consider granting a variance to a property in the Mobile Home District. The owner would like to construct a garage on a vacant lot.

The next council meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. on February 3 at the Village Administration Building.
