BUCYRUS—Republican Bruce Truka won the Mayor’s race in a landslide victory, receiving nearly two-thirds of the votes cast. Truka defeated challengers Mark Makeever and Jenny Vermillion in the election held yesterday. City Council President write-in candidate Kurt Fankhauser garnered 263 votes, securing his position in the council.

Three seats were open for the City Council At-large. Incumbent Kevin Myer received 781 votes, Vicki Dishon secured 627 votes, and write-in candidate Carolyn Shireman received 185 votes. Chris Mauritz, who ran unopposed for the First Ward, received 138 votes. There was no candidate for the Second Ward seat. The Third Ward Council seat went to Zyan Morrison Hickman, who was unopposed and received 315 votes. The Fourth Ward write-in candidate James Mee received 76 votes.

In the race for the Law Director position, Interim Bucyrus City Law Director Brian Gernert defeated former law director Andrew Motter with 736 votes versus Motter’s 461 votes.

The Bucyrus Public Library Levy passed easily with 1,497 votes in favor and 415 against. Bucyrus City residents passed the income tax levy. Vote totals were 1,017 for the levy and 508 against the levy. Other levies that passed included Liberty Township, North Robinson Village, and the Crestline Exempted Village Schools.

The primary election saw a total voter turnout of 13.97% of all registered voters. Republican voters represented 88.10% of that total.
