Wynford senior Jack Reed will be trading in his Royals blue for Bluffton purple next year, as he signed his letter of intent to Bluffton University Friday afternoon.

Surrounded by family, coaches, teachers, and friends in the Wynford library, Reed made the announcement official that Bluffton University would be his next destination for his continuing education and basketball career.

Reed who had Wilmington and Capital as other options reflected why he chose Bluffton.

“When I went out there on open gym visits and my regular visits, I met with the team and they made me feel like I was part of the team, I hadn’t even committed yet, but it was a great feeling when I was able to go out there, and it is a great institution,” Reed expounded.

Reed, who noted that he will be a dual major in sports marketing and business, explained why he chose those majors.

“I love sports obviously, and my mom was a director of sales in Columbus, and she kind of steered me into the business aspect, so I just kind of put them together,” Reed said.

Reed’s mom, Melodie, was excited for her son’s choice.

“I am super excited for him, and it is going to be a great experience,” Melodie said. “I felt like that was home for him, when we went over like the coach, the staff, and the campus is great. You could tell it was a good fit for him when we were walking around and talking with the coaches and the students.”

Reed’s basketball coach Jason Engle, who coached Reed during his final two seasons at Wynford, said he was very proud of Reed for signing with Bluffton, and was happy to see the hard work that his player put into the game over the past two seasons pay off.

Reed was fourth in the N10 in scoring during his senior season averaging 16.9 points per game for the Royals.
