BUCYRUS, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—In observance of National Preparedness Month, the East Central Ohio Chapter of the American Red Cross is collaborating with Ohio Mutual Insurance Group and the Bucyrus Fire Department to enhance community safety. On Friday, Sept. 20, 2024, from 10AM to 2PM., volunteers will canvass the Bucyrus community, providing disaster preparedness information, home fire safety instruction, and installing free smoke alarms.

This initiative is part of the Red Cross Home Fire Campaign, which aims to reduce home fire deaths and injuries. Working smoke alarms can cut the risk of dying in a home fire by half.

“Ohio Mutual’s participation in Friday’s installation event aligns with our priority of keeping our members, communities, and associates safe,” said Todd Boyer, Vice President of Corporate Communications for the Bucyrus-based insurer. “Education about all aspects of home fire safety is critical to keeping individuals and families protected, and we’re proud to participate in this important initiative in our hometown.”

Rod Cook, Executive Director of the Red Cross East Central Ohio Chapter, emphasized the importance of community collaboration. “The Red Cross is able to carry out its mission with the support of our volunteers and our wonderful corporate and community partners like Ohio Mutual Insurance and the Bucyrus Fire Department,” Cook said. “It’s gratifying that our joint efforts will improve home safety throughout our community.”

Residents in need of free state-of-the-art smoke alarms can call the Red Cross hotline at 844-207-4509 to schedule an installation appointment.
