While Tuesday’s rain may have been a potential damper, family, friends and loved ones didn’t let the dreary weather stop from celebrating the light of loved ones passed.

Originally scheduled to be held outside at HomeCare Matters’ memorial gardens, rainy weather moved the Light the Night memorial service inside of HomeCare Matters’ Galion office.

Dean Heid, Development and Marketing Coordinator for HomeCare Matters explained what the Light the Night memorial service is about.

“What we are doing today, which is a little different than what we have done before, is we are doing a light the night event in which we are having votives which the family members will light and put in mason jars,” Heid said. “They were originally supposed to be scattered around our memorial garden, but we had to do it inside today. But they will make a mass of light which will help people deal with grief issues.”

Lisa VanHouten provided the memorial roll call. As VanHouten read off the names of those lost family members would walk up and place a lit tea candle into a mason jar.

Reverend Jed Brake officiated the memorial service.

HomeCare Matters holds their memorial services twice annually in the spring and fall.
