Crestline Advocate publisher Kim Ross-Polito took the Crestline Board of Education to task last Friday over Ohio’s Sunshine Law.
The issue over the Ohio Open Meetings Act arose after the school board moved its meeting from April 10 to April 7. Ross-Polito noted that the board designated 7 p.m. on the second Monday of the month as its regular meeting time.
“The board often deviates from this schedule,” Ross-Polito said, “in essence scheduling special meetings, but with the full agenda of a regular meeting. This is a violation of Ohio’s Open Meetings Act.”
Ross-Polito provided the board with copies of Ohio’s 2016 open government resource manual and pages from Ohio Sunshine Laws 2017: An Open Government Resource Manual. She also told the board that the information is available online or through the attorney general’s office.
