BUCYRUS–Crawford County Prosecutor Matthew Crall has voluntarily recused himself from the prosecution of Thomas Brown, 49, of Bucyrus. Brown is charged in the January strangulation death of Sean Cassaro.

In a statement released to Crawford County Now, Crall outlined his decision to recuse:

“I have voluntarily recused myself from this case because of a misconception that I and my office cannot pursue this case zealously to conviction. While I strongly disagree with this notion, my ethics and the ethics of those in my office require that we safeguard the public perception of the pursuit of justice. Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost and Assistant Attorney Generals Michah Ault and Drew Wood have been appointed special prosecutors.  Crall said.

A pretrial for Brown remains set for July 19th in the Crawford County Common  Pleas Court.
