Bucyrus City Council’s Finance Committee met Tuesday to begin the process of keeping a promise made earlier this year. City officials had gone on record that they would restore the tax credit for out of town workers if voters approved the Safety Services Levy.
The Finance Committee discussed when the repeal of the ordinance that took away the credit would take effect.
The repeal of Ordinance 50-2012 was voted by the Finance Committee to take effect on January 1 2014 when the Safety Services Levy begins.
The Finance Committee voted to repeal Ordinance 50-2012 effective Jan. 1 of next year when that same Safety Services Levy begins. Bucyrus City Auditor Joyce Schifer explained that 2013 taxes filed in 2014 will not reflect that tax credit. The repeal still needs to be approved by the full City Council.
Schifer also referred an appropriation for $15,552 to committee for L.E.D. traffic signals through G.E. The bid will save the city an estimated $1,900 over what was originally planned.
Councilman Bruce Truka noted that Bucyrus G.E. Plant Manager Matt Novak announced the city’s intentions to G.E. engineers who came up with a less expensive solution for the city for the installation.
The move to L.E.D. traffic lights is set to lower the city’s utility bill, as well as cut down on wattage.
A request for $32,423.93 by Schifer for updated computers, software, and installation was tabled for more investigation if a package deal would be possible as numerous other departments need to replace outdated computers and software.
The Bucyrus Public Lands and Buildings Committee met prior to the Finance Committee with only one item on the agenda.
Committee members discussed a stipulation on land sold to the city by Ohio Regional Development Corporation. The land which is a triangle section of the old Crawford school property on Woodlawn was purchased in 2010 for development through a Neighborhood Stabilization Grant.
The ORDC is asking the city not build further, or transfer the land for 10 years after the land was sold to the city, and the committee agreed.
That resolution will now go to Bucyrus City Council for vote.
