The sixth annual South of the Square Block Rally’s proceeds for the year went to the Humane Society Serving Crawford County. The rally, put on by MizickMiller, occurred on June 24, but the funds collected were generously given over to the Humane Society on Wednesday afternoon.
Jill Logsdon of MizickMiller explained why they had chosen to give their proceeds to the Humane Society.
“The businesses all get together at a planning meeting in early June and we just sit around a table and throw out some non-profit organizations and get them added to a list. And we go around and everybody votes,” Logsdon said.
The Humane Society Serving Crawford County Director Victoria Carmean expressed thankfulness that the Humane Society has for the amount of funds they received. This year the rally brought in $2,600 which, Carmean excitedly said, will be put to good use.
“We are so grateful to be part of such a giving community that puts their faith in us,” expressed Carmean.
Carmean then explained how the Humane Society has a few special ideas they have been considering. Through the funds they received from this event, they may be able to start a few. One idea that they have been dreaming of for a while now is a community cat room.
“It would be a room where we don’t have cages for the cats where maybe five or six of them can be in the room by themselves and they will have enrichment toys and litter boxes. It will be more like a home environment,” Carmean passionately explained.
They also have some other ideas such as adding more space for dog adoption. The ultimate decision will be made by the board after much discussion.
The Humane Society will also be holding another fundraiser later this summer on the last Sunday in August called Hogs for Dogs Motorcycle Ride. Since they are a non-profit organization, the Humane Society is hoping that more funds will “roll in” with the crowd that rides from many various areas to come help support.
