BUCYRUS — Dani Rae Reed of Mt. Gilead appeared in Crawford County Common Pleas Court on Monday to plead guilty to violating the terms and conditions of her community control.

Reed, 22, was placed on community control in August 2018 after she pleaded guilty to two counts of possession of drugs, each a fifth-degree felony and each punishable with up to 12 months in prison.

According to probation officer Eric Bohach, Reed tested positive for meth and methamphetamines on September 24 and admitted to using the drugs.

When questioned by Common Pleas Court Judge Sean Leuthold, Reed told the court she is seven months pregnant and has had no prenatal care. She told the court she has three other children, two boys who live with their father and one 9-month-old daughter in her custody.

“Have you been doing drugs during your entire pregnancy?” Leuthold asked. Reed broke down in tears, telling the court she was sorry.

“I used meth one time. I made a bad choice. I have never failed a drug test and I use a lot of drugs,” Reed said.

Leuthold expressed his concerns about the fact that there has been no prenatal care.

“You’ve had not seen a doctor in seven months. You have a 9-month-old and I don’t think you’re in any position to take care of her either,” Leuthold said.

Reed was sentenced to 12 months on each count for a total of 24 months in prison. Leuthold told Reed he would grant a judicial release shortly before or directly after she gives birth.

Leuthold warned Reed that, upon release, she will be on community control again and that if she failed to complete community control, she would be returned to prison to finish the rest of the 24-month sentence.
