The second time around seemed to be the perfect touch for Sidney Long at Tuesday’s horse show.

After having already performed a tricky pattern for her age class in Western Showmanship, Long sought to improve upon what she and her horse Domino already did.

“I thought it was a very difficult pattern. It had a lot of pivots in it and I was just hoping I could do the best I could do and improve from when I did it before,” Long said. “I think I improved a lot when I went back in and I’m hoping the judge noticed that.”

Long competed against nine other competitors, all first and second place winners in each of their respective classes. The showmen and their horses were required to walk from cone A to cone B, complete a 360-degree turn at cone B, and trot to the judge where they performed another 45-degree turn to face him for inspection. After that, the pair would back up 10 steps and complete a 270-degree turn to end their showmanship pattern.

A list of the Western Showmanship results can be found below. The show returned in the afternoon for Western Horsemanship. Riders will compete in gymkhana classes Thursday beginning at 9 a.m. and a versatility show will take place later that day at 3 p.m.
