BUCYRUS―Poppy Days for the American Legion Auxiliary Colonel Crawford Unit 181 in Bucyrus will be held on May 24 and 25.

Members of Post and Unit 181 will be distributing poppies at Carle’s, Kroger and Walmart on Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.

Mayor Jeff Reser has presented Poppy Chairman Sue Adams with a Proclamation stating this weekend as “Poppy Days” in Bucyrus. In part, the proclamation reads, “The annual distribution of Buddy Poppies by the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States has been officially recognized and endorsed by governmental leaders since 1922. The Poppy is a memorial flower which pays tribute to the war dead and aids the living veterans and their families.”

Reser said that it is based on the premise of, “Honor the dead by helping the living.”

Poppies are handmade by veterans at the Ohio Veterans Home and distributed by American Legion Auxiliaries all over the state of Ohio. All monies raised are used for Veteran projects. Colonel Crawford Unit 181 will be distributing poppies this year in memory of Chris Christman who served our Unit as Secretary for many years.
