This weekend, May 22 and 23, are Poppy Days for the American Legion Auxiliary Colonel Crawford Unit 181. Members of Post and Unit 181 will be distributing poppies at Carle’s, Kroger and Walmart on Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.
Poppies are handmade by veterans at the Ohio Veterans Home and distributed by American Legion Auxiliaries all over the state of Ohio. All monies raised are used for Veteran project.
Colonel Crawford Unit 181 will be distributing poppies this year in memory of long time Poppy Chairman Frances Ruth. Frances invigorated Unit 181 in raising money for veterans all year long but especially on Poppy Days. You could find Frances in her poppy shirt and hat at Carle’s every year until her health failed her.
This year’s Poppy Chairman Sue Adams says she has big shoes to fill. “Frances was an inspiration to all of us. Her dedication to our veterans was huge. It will be hard this year without her.”
