Work on Phase 1 of the Plymouth Street Project in Bucyrus is scheduled to begin next week. Thursday night a final informational meeting for affected residents was to discuss what is about to happen.
Phase 1 will involve the removal of about 40 trees from the street, which will then allow for the movement of the utility poles that will need to be completed before road construction begins. Oberlander’s will conduct the removal of these trees.
Oberlander’s will close streets and work one block at a time. The goal being to only have portions of the street closed during business hours, about 8 a.m. to 5 p..m. Oberlander’s hopes to work one block at a time, do that block completely, and then move to the next.
Residents will have the opportunity to keep the wood from trees felled on their property. It should be noted that if residents elect to keep the wood, Oberlander’s is not responsible for splitting it, and it should be removed in a timely manner.
What exactly counts as a timely manner has not been defined yet, so interested parties should maintain contact with the city and Oberlander’s. As to the chopping and splitting of the wood, residents have the opportunity to negotiate services with Oberlander’s should they so choose.
The tree removal portion of the project should take two to three weeks with no major hitches. Then later in the year the utility pole work will take place. The road construction portion of the project, which will incorporate all new curbs, sidewalks, and driveway aprons, will take place in 2016.
“When it’s all done we’re going to have a really nice street,” Mayor Jeff Reser said.
