Mounds of shredded paper was what Plymale Insurance wanted to see Wednesday and that is exactly what the business got.
Plymale Insurance hosted a Shred Day at its Bucyrus location, an event complete with a shred truck and Lee Plymale serving up grilled lunches.
“I had to use it myself because I had so much stuff (to shred),” Plymale explained as he manned his grill. “Might as well make it an event and have everyone use it and get rid of old stuff they don’t want.”
The parking lot of Plymale Insurance was open to the public until the early afternoon to shred important documents, a matter that Plymale said was critical to both individuals and businesses.
“It’s stuff they don’t want people to see,” Plymale explained. “It’s private stuff: social security numbers, driver’s license numbers, medical records. All that good stuff. You don’t want that out because of what can happen on the internet.”
Plymale was referring to the personal information being used to open credit cards or to steal identities.
“You got to get rid of documents,” Plymale said. “As a business owner, I have to keep everything seven years, but some people don’t have to go that far. They can go back four or five or whatever they want.”
The day turned into a success for the insurance company. Not only what the truck packed with shredded paper, but all donations gathered during the event are being given to the “Cruisin’ with the Cops” car show set for June.
