A defendant came into the Crawford County Common Pleas Court on Tuesday charged with a felony and left with a second chance.

Judge Sean Leuthold granted 24-year-old Taylor James’ motion to be placed on the diversion program. James pleaded guilty to fifth-degree felony theft. That plea was held while James is on the diversion program. If she successfully completes the program the charge against her will be dropped.

James must also pay more than $1,000 in restitution to Wal-Mart and the costs of the program including reimbursing the county for the cost of her court-appointed attorney. The maximum prison sentence for a fifth-degree felony theft conviction is 12 months.

Fifty-four-year-old Scott Plaster was back in court Tuesday. Plaster is charged with violating community control. The judge set bond at $100,000 and continued the case. Plaster was convicted in October of fifth-degree felony drug possession.
