Changes may soon be coming to a handful of local businesses.
The Bucyrus City Council Platting Committee met Monday afternoon to discuss three amendments to the zoning district maps.
John and Margie Maddox plan on establishing a counseling and rehabilitation office at 816 North Sandusky Ave. That section of town is currently listed as Limited Industrial zone but would be changed to a General Business zone after incorporating three properties and the 816 North Sandusky Ave. property.
Council on Aging has purchased two parcels south of their complex on South Spring Street with plans to build a kitchen facility to make meals for their Meals on Wheels program. That area would have to be rezoned from an R3 to a Neighborhood District.
Hord Livestock has plans to install a livestock trailer wash station in the area of the airport.
Concerns were raised over the operation and what it would entail. A representative from Hord’s said the plans and location have been reviewed by the Waste Water Treatment department. He added that it would be an enclosed building where they would sweep out and wash the trailers to sanitize them before using them again.
Hord’s has grown over the past few years but, the representative explained, its truck washing capacity hasn’t grown with it. The company currently only has one washing facility, which is located on Lincoln Highway across from Wynford High School.
Central Ohio Recycling and Salvage also has plans to relocate its entire operation to another part of town.
That area would have to be rezoned from a Limited Industrial Commercial District to a General Industrial District.
The Platting Committee made a motion to establish a public hearing at 5:15 on Nov. 3.
The Finance Committee met shortly after to prepare legislation for a number of appropriations. City Auditor Joyce Schifer asked for four appropriations:
• Appropriate $4,000 from the General Fund for contractual services. The city must pay 10 percent for the services of the airport consultant on the taxiway project. The rest of the funds will come from the airport grant fund.
• Appropriate $40,000 from the Income Tax Fund in reference to refund requests made by businesses.
• Appropriate $20,000 from the Street Construction Maintenance and Repair Fund in reference to refund requests made by businesses.
• Appropriate $8,666.67 from unappropriated funds for a derelict building. The funds will be returned to the property owner after it has been signed off by the fire chief.
The committee will be seeking legislation for the appropriations.
