Press release

The Pioneer Career and Technology Center Mock Crash is Friday, March 24, 2017. The theme this year is distracted driving. With help from Shelby EMS and Fire Department, along with an Ohio State Highway Patrolman, the mock crash will educate the students on the irreversible consequences of distracted driving.

Students from several labs, including Performing Arts, Medical Technologies, Media Communications, and Cosmetology will be helping out with the production of the mock crash. Olivia Viers, Hannah Evans, and Lindsey Christini, seniors from Medical Technologies have invited the Shelby City Council to view the crash and have also teamed up with a foundation located in New Jersey known as PADD (People Against Distracted Driving) who have provided wristbands, bumper stickers and key chains to pass out to the students. PADD also donated a street legal sign that will be put up on Ryan Road to help remind students of the dangers of distracted driving.

The coordinators of the mock crash will be competing in a state competition for HOSA (Health Occupations Student Association) as a Community Awareness Project. We just recently completed a schoolwide ICE lesson for Pioneer and brought in State Highway Patrolman Gary Griffith to educate HOSA and SKILLSUSA on the dangers and consequences of distracted driving.

The crash will take place 4 times-8:30-9:30, 9:45-10:45, 12:00-1:00 and 1:15-2:15.  It will take place in the board parking lot at Pioneer.

Our goal is to leave a lasting impact on the students and faculty of Pioneer as well as the community and make the roads safer for everyone.
