Pioneer students will be swarming through their respective communities for the school’s annual Community Service Day on Friday.
Over 950 students representing 35 Pioneer Career and Technology Center programs and 14 partner schools will be volunteering for the event that stretches through four counties. Students will participate in various community service projects from painting at schools; decorating nursing homes; working with food pantries; and cleaning parks, school and church grounds, and even safety forces vehicles.
In Crawford County, students will be working on the following projects in their home school districts. Buckeye Central students: Buckeye Central school grounds; Bucyrus students: Aumiller Park, Bucyrus Little League Fields, Bucyrus YMCA, and Washington Square; Colonel Crawford students: Colonel Crawford school grounds; Crestline students: Crestline Fire Department, Crestline Catholic Cemetery, Greenlawn Cemetery, Crestline High School; Galion students: Gillhouse, Town Square, Varsity Grille, ramp project, Galion Historical Society, Galion schools, Laird project, Linden Road, Health Department, Galion St. Joes, memorial at the park; and Wynford students: Nevada parks and Wynford school grounds.
In past years, Buckeye Central students washed the village’s fire trucks and helped clean up Cranberry Hills Golf Course while Bucyrus students cleaned up the playscape at Aumiller Park and build a handicap accessible ramp. The Wynford home stands at the football field received some sprucing up by the students, who also spent time working in Nevada. The Colonel Crawford students spent another year working on the log cabin while others cleaned out unwanted materials from the school basement.
