Pioneer Career and Technology Center students qualified to compete in the recent SkillsUSA and Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) national competitions.

SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference was held in Louisville, Kentucky on June 19-24, 2017. Pioneer Power Equipment student, Jerry “JC” Clark, a 2017 Crestline High School graduate, competed in the SkillsUSA Ohio State Championships this past spring where he earned first place in the Motorcycle Repair Technology contest. This accomplishment qualified Clark to compete at the National Conference, the highest level of competition for students in skilled trades. Clark was accompanied to Louisville by his Power Equipment Technology Instructor, Rick Harvey, and the SkillsUSA Advisor, Stephanie Gwin.
HOSA International Leadership Conference was held June 21-24, 2017 at Disney World in Orlando, Florida. Pioneer was represented by 12 students for 6 different competitions. In 4 of the contests students had to earn a chance to compete in the second round. Pioneer Dental Assisting student, Rachel Bell, a 2017 Bucyrus High School graduate, competed in both rounds of Dental Science. Pioneer Exercise Science/Sports Medicine student, Chris Schafer, a 2017 Ontario High School graduate, competed in both rounds of Healthy Lifestyle. Pioneer Exercise Science/Sports Medicine student, Jaimie Blunt, a 2017 Shelby High School graduate, competed in both rounds of Sports Medicine.
Other students that represented Pioneer were the Parliamentary Procedure team of Medical Technology senior, Mikaila Bardroff, Lexington High School, Dental Assisting senior, Brandie Bogner, Ashland High School, Dental Assisting senior, Stephanie Stacklin, Lexington High School, Dental Assisting senior, Logan Ballash, Lexington High School, and Dental Assisting senior, Chelsie Kegley, Lucas High School. Pioneer Exercise Science/Sports Medicine student, Danny Montgomery, a 2017 Willard High School graduate, competed with an Extemporaneous Health Poster. Pioneer Dental Assisting student, Katie Bushey, a 2017 Plymouth High School graduate, competed in the Dental Terminology exam. Pioneer Dental Assisting student, Haley Handshoe, a 2017 Willard High School graduate, competed in the Dental Science contest. Pioneer Dental Assisting student, Autumn Parr, Lexington High School, attended in a leadership role. The HOSA trip was chaperoned by Melissa Myers, Dental Assisting Instructor, Karrie Davisson, Pioneer Library Media Specialist, Dawn Roberts, Medical Technologies Instructor and Don Paullin, Supervisor at Pioneer.
