Press release

Stop by the Galion Big Four Depot on Saturday, May 20, for the Pavilion Opening and Creation at the Station! A variety of activities are being planned to celebrate the pavilion project and future plans for the Depot.

Artists will be on site and around town beginning at 8:00 a.m. to paint stills of the Depot and other local buildings, which is being dubbed “Creation at the Station.” Artwork will be on display all day and food trucks open at noon.

A dedication ceremony for the new pavilion will be held at 2:00 p.m. The pavilion is a rectangular, 1,205-square-foot building located on the depot property. It features enclosable bay doors and a fireplace. The project was made possible through a $200,000 grant from the Ohio Cultural Facilities Commission.

There will be a variety of events following the ceremony, including live entertainment by the Galion Area Band, Eagle Dance Center, and local musicians. There will also be walking history tours, kids’ activities, and a wet paint sale. Attendees will also have an opportunity to learn about the next steps for restoring the Depot.

An auction will begin at 5:00 p.m. and proceeds will go toward future Depot projects.

Local kids in grades 3-12 are encouraged to submit artwork to the Draw the Depot contest. Drawings may be in color or black and white, and on canvas no larger than 9×12 inches. Name, grade level, school and contact information must be attached to artwork. Kids in grades K-2 can participate in the coloring contest using the attached sheet.

Contest deadline is May 15. Submissions may be mailed to: Friends of the Big Four Depot, PO Box 865, Galion. Artwork will be displayed at the event and winners will be announced after the opening ceremony.

The community is invited to enjoy all of the activities on May 20. This event is being organized by Brush and Palette Art Gallery; Friends of the Big Four Depot; Galion Depot, Inc.; and the City of Galion. It is sponsored by Firelands Federal Credit Union.
