BUCYRUS, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—The longtime owners of a Bucyrus business are hanging it up.
Tim and Diana Shroll, the owners of DT Petroleum Service, have decided to retire, turning the company over to another family firm – Schilling Propane in Upper Sandusky.
“Schilling is an amazing company,” Diana Shroll said. “We’re comfortable with turning things over to them because we feel they will take care of our customers as much as we did.”
The decision to step down has been in the works for about a year, she said. The sale took place July 25, and all 13 DT Petroleum employees have agreed to stay on, she said.
The Shrolls are synonymous with the business, which they founded in 1992. It’s a major supplier of petroleum – propane, fuel oil, diesel, and gasoline – in Crawford and surrounding counties.
The business started out in a small shop they purchased on West Mansfield Street and soon grew. In 1996 bulk propane was added to DT’s product line-up, and a satellite plant in Mt. Gilead opened in 2010.
The company’s physical site also expanded over the years to include four buildings – a shop, main office, oil storage building, and a building for housing its fleet of 13 delivery trucks.
Although the sale is somewhat bittersweet, Diana Shroll said they will stay busy. She babysits their grandchildren part-time, and Tim shows off his 1955 Chevy Bel Air at area car shows.
The Shrolls also enjoy camping in their fifth wheel and just returned from a trip to San Antonio, Texas, where they visited their son and his family.
“I just love not having to rush. It was always a fast pace,” Diana Shroll said. “When you retire, it’s your own pace. It’s awesome.”
