BUCYRUS – The owner of a local gas station is “pumped up” about helping the community this summer.

Harry Sarao, the owner of the Sunoco Northside in town, is sponsoring the Summer of Thanks program for First Responders by donating gas cards, which are given as a promotion on Iconic Rock Q92.7 WQEL Radio to residents who have been vaccinated for COVID-19.

“I live in this community. I like to do this,” said Sarao, who has owned and operated the Sunoco station at 1505 N. Sandusky Avenue since 2012. “It’s helping the community. It just makes you feel good.”

Each month during the summer, Sarao is donating $1,000 in gas cards. The cards – valued at $10 apiece – are given away to the first 100 listeners during the Bucyrus Chamber’s First Friday event downtown, as long as they show their vaccination card.

Residents are invited to stop by the Iconic Rock Q92.7 WQEL radio booth, located across the street from Spreng Capital Management on Rensselaer Street, on Friday during the monthly event sponsored by the Chamber.

Sarao said many people in the community are in need and want to help in any way he can. The program will continue in August as well when the local first responders will benefit.
