MANSFIELD, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—The Ohio State Highway Patrol announced today that an OVI checkpoint will be held in Richland County tomorrow evening. The checkpoint, funded by federal grant funds, aims to deter and intercept impaired drivers.
“There were 11,324 OVI-related crashes in which 725 people were killed last year in Ohio,” said Lieutenant Jason Murfield, Mansfield Post commander. “In 2023, troopers made more than 15,000 OVI arrests in an attempt to combat these dangerous drivers. OVI checkpoints are designed to not only deter impaired driving, but to proactively remove these dangerous drivers from our roadways.”
The exact location of the checkpoint will be announced Saturday morning.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol reminds the public to call 911 or #677 if they suspect an impaired driver.
