Press release

OSU Extension Dairy Working group will be offering a series of webinars soon. The program will be an investigation into how to optimize production through facility management.

Cows spend most of their day in the barn whether eating or laying down making facility management a key part of your farm strategy. We will be looking at three different areas of facility management each on a different day at 1 p.m.

On Feb. 13 the program will feature Dr. Peter Krawczel discussing how barn facilities, stall design and stocking density management all relate to animal welfare, milk yield, and components to keep the farm economically viable. Then on March 13 Dr. Katy Proudfoot will be discussing transition cow housing before, during, and after calving. The last program on March 27 will feature Dr. Trevor Devries on optimizing production of dairy cows by ensuring good feed access.

The program is a webinar format that can be viewed from home for $10 for all three webinars by contacting Jason Hartschuh at hartschuh.11@osu.edu. In order to view from home we recommend that you have strong enough internet to view videos online. Detailed directions on how to access the webinar will be sent to you once you register. Some local extension offices will also be hosting the program including Auglaize, Mercer, Wayne, and Mahoning Counties.
