MOUNT GILEAD, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—The Ohio State Highway Patrol is asking for the public’s help in locating a vehicle involved in a fatal hit-skip crash that killed a pedestrian early Friday morning on Interstate 71.

The crash occurred at approximately 1:42 a.m. in Harmony Township, Morrow County, between exits 140 and 151.

According to a preliminary investigation by the Mount Gilead Post, troopers located the body of Hua Zheng, 44, of Brooklyn, New York, along the left shoulder of I-71 North. Investigators determined that Zheng was outside of his vehicle following a separate two-vehicle crash when he was struck by an unidentified vehicle that fled the scene.

Zheng was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Investigators believe the fleeing vehicle is likely a Chevrolet and will have visible front-end damage.

The incident remains under investigation. The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by Morrow County EMS, the Big Walnut Joint Fire District, the Morrow County Sheriff’s Office, and the Morrow County Coroner’s Office.
